Fertility Ultrasound

What to expect at my ultrasound visit?

Baseline Ultrasound
A baseline ultrasound is performed before beginning treatment, typically at the start of a woman’s menstrual cycle. This scan provides fertility specialists with valuable insights into ovarian health and the presence of any mature eggs.

Ultrasound for Fertility Medication Monitoring
The initial phase of treatment involves ovarian stimulation, during which patients take fertility medications to promote the development of mature follicles.

To track the effects of these medications, multiple ultrasounds are conducted throughout this stage. These scans help determine whether to proceed to the next phase of treatment or adjust the medication as needed.

Ultrasounds During Pregnancy
If pregnancy occurs, several ultrasounds will be scheduled to monitor the baby’s growth. The first ultrasound typically takes place around the sixth or seventh week of pregnancy, approximately four to five weeks after the embryo transfer.

What will we look at with ultrasound?

  • Endometrial appearance

  • Endometrial measurements

  • Right ovarian follicle measurements

  • Left ovarian follicle measurements

  • Total follicle count for each ovary
